UPPER LAKE — The goals came early and often for the Upper Lake Cougars in a 16-0 victory over the Anderson Valley Panthers in non-league girls soccer action Tuesday afternoon in Upper Lake where sophomore Karlee Zimmerschied led the way with eight goals and two assists.
Yep, you read that right; eight goals.
Upper Lake coach Daniella Santana said she can’t remember an Upper Lake player who has scored that many goals in a game.
“We’ve had trouble scoring that many as a team,” Santana said.

Anderson Valley had to postpone a game last week with Upper Lake because it didn’t have enough players. It was rescheduled for Tuesday.
“I don’t think they’ve had a chance to practice much,” said Santana, who kept rotating different players up front in the second half in an effort to keep the score from getting too lopsided.
“We were scoring too easily,” Santana said. “I wish we would have passed the ball a little more to some of the other girls.”
Maddy Young added a hat trick (three goals), Tristin Rhodes had two goals and Vanessa Lopez, Atlantis Jones and Paige Pruett each had one. Jones led the team with three assists.

Upper Lake’s offense pretty much camped out on Anderson Valley’s side of the field in both halves, launching shot after shot after shot against the Panthers. It was 8-0 at halftime.
“I think our passing was a little stronger this game but we were moving slower,” Santana said.
Upper Lake (2-2) has been idle since going 1-2 in its own tournament on Aug. 23-24. The Cougars are home Friday to play Roseland Collegiate Prep at 3:30 p.m. and they hit the road Monday to take on a Clear Lake team that already owns a 3-2 victory over them this season.
