UPPER LAKE — Scoring their second three-set sweep in as many nights, the Upper Lake Cougars dispatched the Roseland Collegiate Prep Grizzlies 25-16, 25-17, 25-16 in North Central League II volleyball action on Friday evening in the sauna that is the Upper Lake High School gym.
“No one gave up and no one passed out,” Upper Lake head coach Dani Paige Gudmundson Pena said. “That gym is as hot as hell.”
Upper Lake, now 2-1 in the league standings, has stepped up its game this week, according to Pena.
“We’ve been really working hard,” Pena said. “The girls have been working their butts off.”
Upper Lake is in the busiest stretch of its schedule. The team participates in the Fort Bragg Tournament on Saturday, is back on the court Monday night against Credo in Rohnert Park, and is home Tuesday to take on Roseland University Prep.
Kaila Willard’s nine kills led the Cougars against Roseland Collegiate Prep and Seneca Snow added four kills and a team-best six aces. Madison Hicks, the Upper Lake setter, contributed five aces, four kills and two blocks.
“They played really well,” Pena said.
Upper Lake defeated Technology 25-16, 25-18, 25-23 on Thursday night in Rohnert Park for its first league win.
There was no junior varsity match against Roseland Collegiate Prep.
