CLOVERDALE — Despite two more goals from Ulices Valencia, the Clear Lake Cardinals dropped a hard-fought 3-2 decision to the Cloverdale Eagles in North Central League I boys soccer action on Thursday afternoon in Cloverdale.

“We’re just not getting the luck this year,” Clear Lake coach Shaun Hornby said. “We hit the crossbar, we hit the post. The luck’s gotta turn here some time. It was a game we deserved to get something out of.”

Clear Lake (1-3, 5-3-2) and Cloverdale were tied 2-2 at the half. The Eagles scored what proved to be the game-winning goal midway through the second half.

Jose Rodriguez and Nicholas Holmes had assists for the Cardinals.

Standouts were Holmes in the midfield and Bron Falkenberg on defense, according to Hornby.

Clear Lake hosts Fort Bragg on Tuesday at 5:30 p.m.
