LAKEPORT — Jake Soderquist scored on a 48-yard run and caught a 60-yard touchdown pass as the Westshore Cardinals varsity rolled past Willits 38-0 on Saturday night in Mendo-Lake Empire Junior Football League (MLEJFL) action at Don Owens Stadium in Lakeport.

Westshore improved to 6-0 in its final home game of the season. The Cardinals play their final four regular-season games on the road.

Westshore held a 31-0 halftime lead. After taking a 38-0 lead in the third quarter on a 13-yard Caleb Williams run that capped a 45-yard scoring drive, with Williams also adding the extra point, the game finished with a running clock.

Hank Ollenberger’s 7-yard touchdown run staked the Cardinals to a 6-0 lead in the first quarter. Cody Hayes recovered an onside kick to set up Westshore’s next score, which came on a 48-yard Soderquist run.

The Cardinals continued to add to their lead in the second quarter. Jonathon Decent scored runs of 10 and 8 yards to make it 24-0, and Soderquist caught a 60-yard TD pass from Decent, who also ran in the extra point.

Decent rushed 12 times for 97 yards to lead the team. Williams had a 27-yard interception return in the second quarter.

Westshore’s four remaining games are at Upper Lake (Saturday), at Fort Bragg (Oct. 12), at Middletown (Oct. 19), and at Kelseyville (Oct. 26).

Westshore leads the North division of the MLEJFL while Middletown (5-1) leads the North through last weekend’s action.

In other youth football action Saturday:

Fort Bragg 57, Northshore 33 (varsity)

At Upper Lake, the Northshore Junior Cougars varsity put up plenty of points but couldn’t overtake Fort Bragg.

Fort Bragg improved to 2-4 while Upper Lake fell to 1-5 in the North division game.

Ben Beecher, Vincent Stevenson, Delaney Allison and Jared Rosales powered the Upper Lake offense. Northshore defensive leaders were James Uden, Aiden Jensen and Vincent Stevenson.

Northshore hosts Westshore this coming Saturday.

Fort Bragg 19, Northshore 12 (JV)

At Upper Lake, the Junior Cougars’ JV squad spotted Fort Bragg a 12-0, rallied but came up a little short.

Quarterback Johnny Cruz scored on a 6-yard run and he connected with Aaron Bowman on a 70-yard TD pass for Northshore’s points.

Defensive standouts for the Junior Cougars were Jair Carrillo with five sacks, Jaden Smith, Landon Robinson, Jamaar Jones and Billy Stillman Jr.

Fort Bragg improved to 5-1 while Upper Lake fell to 3-3.

Northshore 2, Fort Bragg 0 (PeeWee)

At Upper Lake, in the lowest-scoring game you’ll ever see, the Northshore PeeWees squared their record at 3-3 with a 2-0 win over Fort Bragg. A safety decided things after both teams had touchdowns called back on penalties during the game.

Middletown 27, Lower Lake 14 (varsity)

Middletown 20, Lower Lake 0 (JV)

Middletown 32, Lower Lake 0 (PeeWee)

At Lower Lake, all three of Middletown’s teams continued their fine seasons with victories over Lower Lake. The Middletown varsity improved to 5-1 on the season, while the Middletown JVs and PeeWees are a perfect 6-0 heading into the final four weeks of the regular season.

All three Middletown teams are home this coming Saturday to play Kelseyville.

Kelseyville 35- St Helena 0 (varsity)

At Kelseyville, Kelseyville took the lead early in the first quarter and didn’t look back. Rahko Nimmons ran in two touchdowns and Dememtrio Boyd punched in another. Jonathan Dougherty also caught a pass and went 83 yards for a touchdown. Shane Poff found a receiver on the point-after attempt.

Kelseyville also scored on a Mateo Nonato 1-yard run set up Antonio Garaventa’s 30-yard run.

On defefnse, Joe Solgot, Isaac Wymer, Ricardo Morales and Antonio Garaventa turned in solid performances as they played the entire second half on both sides of the ball.

Kelseyville is 5-1 on the season and tied with Middletown for first place in the South division. Kelseyville visits Middletown this coming Saturday.

Kelseyville 25-St Helena 7 (JV)

At Kelseyville, Kelseyville’s running game was in full effect as Micheal Dougherty, Kimo Brown, Max Lee and Bryce Keener combined for over 250 yards. Brown rushed for two touchdowns while Lee and Dougherty had one each.

On defense, Adrian Garcia led the team with five tackles, Elijah Watkins added four tackles and had a quarterback sack. Adam Mann contributed three tackles.

Kelseyville is 3-3 on the season.

Kelseyville 26, St. Helena 6 (PeeWee)

At Kelseyville, Case Pivniska scored all four of Kelseyville’s touchdowns as the team improved to 4-2 on the season.

“I’m so proud with how far these guys have come after a week one loss to St. Helena (19-6) to a win over St. Helena,” Kelseyville coach Mike Lyndall said. “Great progress these guys have made.”

Deake Lyndall and Hugh O’Boyle anchored the defense.
