Arts Education benefit Oct. 11 at the Soper Reese Theatre

The Psychedellos, along with The Fargo Brothers and other surprise guests, will perform at a special dance party on Friday, October 11, at 7 p.m., at the Soper Reeese Theatre in Lakeport.  Proceeds from the event will benefit arts education.  Open seating tickets are $15 and the dance floor will be open.

The show is a fundraiser for the Jillian Billester Scholarship, established in 2015 and open to area students showing a commitment to both the arts and their community.  The 2018 recipients were Gleb Kondratieb and Bianca Torres. This year two more Lake County students will receive $1,000 scholarships which will be awarded at the concert.

The scholarship is in honor of the late Jillian Billester, one time executive director of the Lake County Arts Council and the visionary behind the transformation of a shuttered 1947 movie theatre into what is today the Soper Reese Theatre, a renovated, vibrant performing arts center for the Lake County community.  Those wishing to make a contribution to the scholarship fund can contact Mike Adams at the Soper Reese at 263-0577 or info@soperreesetheatre.com.

Tickets to the benefit concert are now available at soperreesetheatre.com or at The Travel Center, 825 S. Main St., Lakeport, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Friday.  The theatre is located at 275 S. Main St., Lakeport.  For more information call 707-263-0577.

Aguiar-Curry’s bill to increase transparency in State climate change grant programs signed by Governor

Assembly Bill 1237, authored by Assemblymember Aguiar-Curry (D-Winters), was signed into law by Governor Gavin Newsom. AB 1237 will require California’s competitive financing programs funded with Cap and Trade dollars to provide information online about application timelines, eligibility criteria, technical assistance, and agency staff contacts.

“More than $8 billion in Cap and Trade money has paid for environmental projects in California, but the vast majority of these projects are located in four regions: Los Angeles, San Diego, the Bay Area, and the San Joaquin Valley,” said Assemblymember Aguiar-Curry. “AB 1237 will make these programs easier to navigate and more transparent, increasing the number and diversity of applicants.”

“Northern California is ground zero for major efforts that can help our state reduce greenhouse gas emissions, including sustainable agriculture, improved waste management, and forest management and wildfire prevention,” said Aguiar-Curry.  “These are just as important to achieving our climate and air quality goals as reducing industrial and transportation emissions in urban centers.”
