LOWER LAKE — Jessie Castellanos scored twice while Jorge Arroyo and Angelo Pelcastre added single goals in Lower Lake’s 4-0 North Central League I boys soccer win over the Clear Lake Cardinals on Thursday afternoon in Lower Lake.

Lower Lake had a 2-0 halftime lead. Both the Trojans (5-3 league, 7-3-1 overall) and the Cardinals (1-7, 5-7-1) started the game with the minimum 11 players and no reserves. The Trojans have three players out injured and recently lost four others to grades. Clear Lake has four players out injured and lost keeper Rodi Arias-Cacho in the second half to a possible rib injury, leaving the team with only 10 on the field.

“They played a hard 80,” said Lower Lake coach Marcus Humphrey said of his starting 11. Humphrey is currently filling in for head coach Paul Krohn. “I’m really proud of them.”

Castellanos and Leo Brown, both forwards, led the team on offense while keeper Gilberto Orozco anchored the defense.

“He had at least seven or eight saves,” Humphrey said of Orozco. “And I had lots of great hustle from Jessie and Leo.”

Brown picked up an assist in the win.

“In the first half Lower Lake totally deserved it,” Clear Lake coach Shaun Hornby said of the Trojans’ early domination of the game.

Lower Lake went 2-0-1 against Clear Lake this season, winning both league meetings and tying the Cardinals in late August at the Tyler Duncan Memorial Tournament in Upper Lake.

The Trojans are home on Tuesday to play St. Helena at 5:45 p.m. The Cardinals travel to Kelseyville.
