UPPER LAKE — Lake County Wine Studio is hosting a wine release party and artist show reception with Buck Shack wines by Shannon Ridge Family of Wines, and artist Jackie Farley on Nov. 1, from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. and the following day from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m.

The $15 ($12.50 per person for Studio club members) wine sampler and appetizers by Cache Creek Catering will showcase 2018 Buck Shack Whitetail Chardonnay paired with a pear and Gruyère Galette, 2017 Buck Shack Red with balsamic glazed root vegetables, 2018 Buck Shack Bourbon barrel aged Zinfandel with turkey and fresh cranberry/ginger/Zinfandel sauce, and the 2018 Buck Shack Bourbon barrel aged Cabernet Sauvignon with a dark chocolate coffee bean truffle.

Nestled deep in the Shannon Ridge vineyard’s Sheep Camp property, stood a dilapidated 100-year-old skinning shed called the “Ye Old Buck Shack.”  The old building was restored and converted into a whiskey bar.  The rustic charm of that old building looks and feels like an old Western movie and was the inspiration for the Buck Shack collection of wines.  The Zinfandel and Cabernet Sauvignon releases were each aged for 3 months in freshly emptied bourbon barrels.  Each sip resonates with rich hints of bourbon.

Titled the “Gratitude Art Show,” artist Jackie Farley’s month long show will benefit the Lakeport Fire Department with its sales proceeds.  Farley was in England visiting her mum in 2018 when she saw on the BBC that her home town of Lakeport was being evacuated due to the River Fire. Aware of the great need for funding by the fire departments and grateful that her home was saved from the fire, Farley will be donating 50% of her artwork sales proceeds to the Lakeport Fire department.

Farley has lived in Lake County since 1993.  She was born and educated in the UK where she worked as a dance and theatre arts teacher in schools, colleges and universities in the greater London area.  Following a short career in the theatre, her interest developed in the therapeutic application of the arts and how the arts can benefit society.  She earned a BA majoring in dance and went on to study Dramatherapy, Psychology and Education at a post graduate level, and then began working inhospitable settings and with at-risk youth.  Her training in art during these years was at London’s City Literary Institute and St. Albans College of Art.

Farley came to the U.S. as an intern in a therapeutic community run according to the philosophy of the late psychiatrist, RD Laing, with the aim of becoming a psychologist.  She worked with residents using the therapeutic application of art, dance and drama as well as meditative techniques.

Since moving to Lake County, Farley has been active in the arts community both as a teacher at Mendocino College and as a performer.  She has been a part-time teacher of English as well as Visual and Performing Arts at Instilling Goodness and Developing Virtue Schools in Ukiah since 2001, and earned her MA in Buddhist Education at the Dharma Realm Buddhist University in 2009.  Her interest in drawing and painting is lifelong, and she continues to attend art classes at Mendocino College where some of her paintings are currently on display in Macmillan Hall.  She lives with her husband in Lakeport.

Lake County Wine Studio is a gallery for display of arts and a tasting room, wine bar and retail shop for the fine wines of Lake County. Artist’s shows are held on a monthly basis with art and wine receptions held the first Friday and subsequent Saturday of each month.

The Farley art show will be on display for the full month of November.
