UPPER LAKE — Undefeated Roseland University Prep (RUP) held off the Upper Lake Cougars for a 3-1 victory in North Central League III girls soccer action on Friday afternoon at Upper Lake.

“It was a very good game the whole time,” Upper Lake coach Daniella Santana said. “The entire team played well.”

RUP improved to 5-0-2 in league play and 14-0-2 overall with its victory. The Knights found themselves locked in a 1-1 tie when Upper Lake sophomore forward Karlee Zimmerschied scored with an assist from freshman teammate Maddy Young three minutes into the second half. RUP pushed back in front to stay at 2-1 about 10 minutes later, according to Santana.

The Cougars (4-5-1, 9-8-1) received outstanding defense from Atlantis Jones and keeper Taylor Minnis, who made 12 saves. Other standouts were Young in the midfield and Zimmerschied, Tristin Rhodes and Vanessa Beccera-Lopez at forward, according to Santana.

RUP led 1-0 at halftime.

Upper Lake wraps up its league and regular-season schedule Wednesday on the road in Mendocino at 4:30 p.m.
