Power blackout committee appointments

The Lakeport City Council appointed two members and one alternate to be apart of the ad-hoc committee that will draft communications and advocate for the community in regard to the power shutoffs at their meeting on Tuesday, November 5.

Council members Mireya Turner and Stacey Mattina were appointed as members of this committee with George Spurr being an alternate.

Officials from the County as well as Clearlake Council Members will also be a part of this ad-hoc committee. Lakeport City Manager Margaret Silviera said the creation of this ad-hoc came from a joint meeting between the three jurisdictions last week on October 31.

Mattina called it a great opportunity and added that she would love to be a part of the collaboration with the three entities working together.

District Supervisor Tina Scott who attended the meeting thanked the council members for being a part of this effort for the community and for attending the joint meeting.

Lake County Republican Women lunch on November 13

Lake County Republican Women, Federated (LCRWF) will meet for lunch on November 13 in the Greenview Restaurant, 19210 Hartmann Road,Hidden Valley Lake, California.

Dottie Linden, President, CFRW Northern Division, will join the club at its last luncheon of its 71st year. As the club’s elections also take place, Linden will not only be guest speaker, but will install the club’s officers for their 2020-2021 term.

Under Linden’s leadership, CRWF Northern Division has been working under the banner “Informed – Involved – Impactful.” With the mission statement: “Our Mission is Making America Great Again and Making Things Right Again in California, One Voice and One Vote at a Time!”

All women and men are welcome at LCRWF meetings by reservation only. However, membership is open only to registered Republican women, but many registered Republican men join and are active as associate members. Monthly luncheon meetings will resume in February 2020.

To reserve your seat at this luncheon, please phone 707-998-3280 no later than November 8 ($20 per person), and provide your contact phone number. A made reservation is a paid reservation as the organization always must pay for number of reservations made. Attendees should check in by 11:30 a.m.

Mendocino College to host Native American Heritage Celebration

November is Native American Heritage Month across the country as a way to honor and preserve the Native American culture. In recognition of this, Mendocino College will host their annual Native American Heritage Celebration in the Lowery Student Center at the Ukiah campus on Thursday, November 14 from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m.

This free event is open to the public so bring your family and friends to an entertaining evening of traditional Native dancing by Shokawah Ke, crafts, games, and cultural activities, which will include a display of historical artifacts and photos that provide a history of the culture of Mendocino and Lake County tribes. Free Indian tacos will also be served.

The event will begin with a traditional Native American blessing and welcome, followed by a keynote address from Sonny J. Elliott Sr., Chairman of the Hopland Band of Pomo Indians, who will speak to the importance of education in the tribal community.

Cultural activities, games, and information tables hosted by local Native community members, elders, and leaders will include a coloring Pomo language table, traditional stick games, traditional Pomo basket weaving, traditional tule duck and doll making, traditional clacker making, and lessons about the history of Native American tribes of Mendocino County and how to gather and prepare traditional food of the California Natives.

Comission and Committee openings with the City of Lakeport

The City of Lakeport has opportunities for the general public to become involved in local government by serving on local commissions and committees.

The City invites applications for the following Committees and Commissions: the Planning Commission, the Parks and Recreation Commission, the Lakeport Fire Protection District Board (LFPD), and the Lakeport Economic Development Advisory Committee (LEDAC).
These appointments would be effective as of Jan. 1, 2020.

Membership on these commissions and committees is voluntary. If you are interested in serving on one of these committees, applications are available on the City’s website under the Community News Topic, “Now Recruiting: Commission/Committee Openings” (www.cityoflakeport.com), or under the “Government” tab (Committees & Commissions).

LUCERNE

Lucerne Area Town Hall

The Lucerne Town Hall meeting will meet on Thursday Nov. 21, 2019 at 3985 Country Club Drive in Lucerne.  The meeting will start at 7 P.M.

“It’s time to take our town back and bring the community together with a beautification and clean up campaign. We hope that all residents who are interested in being involved will come out to hear our local business owner of Lakeview Market Kenny Parlet and his vision for our town,” said board president Lani Kane.

“As most of you know we recently experienced a five day PSPS power outage,” she said. “Our Board of Supervisor [representative] EJ Crandal will have a report for us on their special meeting held Oct. 31. Our Fire Chief will also be giving a report on activity on the North Shore.”
