UPPER LAKE — Upper Lake High School’s up-and-coming girls soccer squad, which reached the North Coast Section Division 3 playoffs this season, landed two underclassmen on the All-North Central League III first team as recently selected by the league’s coaches.

Scoring machine Karlee Zimmerschied, a sophomore forward, joined freshman forward Maddy Young on the All-League first team.

Stephanie Guzman of Roseland University Prep, a junior, and senior Ellie Garcia of Tech were honored as the league’s co-most valuable players. Roseland University Prep lost to eventual section champion Middletown in the Division I playoffs while Tech lost to St. Bernard’s of Eureka in the Division III championship game.

Upper Lake's Maddy Young, only a freshman, has been named to the All-North Central League III first team.

Upper Lake beat Roseland Collegiate Prep 5-0 in the opening round of the Division III playoffs before losing 2-0 to St. Bernard’s in the semifinals.

Besides Zimmerschied and Young, four other Cougars were honored on the All-League team, including Upper Lake’s lone second-team selection, senior Harmony Byrd.

Honorable mentions went to senior Mallory Henry, freshman Vanessa Lopez-Becerra, and sophomore Atlantis Jones.

Roseland University Prep had the most players honored with nine followed by Tech with eight, Upper Lake with six, Calistoga with five, and Mendocino with four.
