UPPER LAKE — Fort Bragg outscored Upper Lake 14-4 in the fourth quarter while rallying past the Cougars for a 40-34 victory in non-league junior varsity girls basketball action Wednesday evening in Upper Lake.

Upper Lake head coach Angelina Arroyo said several factors contributed to the loss, including key turnovers in the final minutes, being shorthanded on the bench, foul trouble in the second half, and Fort Bragg’s ability to dominate the boards over the final two quarters.

“They outrebounded us in the second half after we completely outrebounded them in the first half,” Arroyo said.

The Cougars (2-2) also stopped working the ball inside to Taylar Minnis, who finished with 10 points. Lupy Monlo-Duncan led Upper Lake with 11 points but was held scoreless after the first quarter.

“We got off to a great start,” Arroyo said of the opening period.

Held without a basket in the second quarter, the Cougars still led 19-17 at halftime and they were able to push their advantage to 30-26 through three quarters.

“There was no doubt in my mind we could have and probably should have won that game,” Arroyo said.

Tristin Rhodes had seven points for the Cougars, who are off until Tuesday when they travel to Healdsburg for a 5:30 p.m. game against the Greyhounds.
