MIRA LOMA — West Campus of Sacramento beat Lower Lake High School’s varsity boys basketball team 87-40 in the third-place game of the Matador Classic on Saturday in Mira Loma.
Lower Lake opened the tournament — and its season — with a 81-57 victory over Mira Loma on Thursday before falling 70-39 to Woodside on Friday in the semifinals.
Suiting up only seven players was just one obstacle for the Trojans (1-2) during the tournament. Facing some tough competition was another.
“Most of the teams down here are Division 2 schools,” Lower Lake first-year head coach Marcus Humphrey said. “We saw different types of defenses, but I know what we need to work on,” Humphrey added.
All-Tournament selection Semaj Clark led the Trojans with 11 points while Vann Wilkins and Makhi Johnson each had nine.
Lower Lake is off until Friday when it opens play against Colfax in the Mount Shasta Tournament in Susanville.

At Santa Rosa, Mt. Eden of Hayward defeated Lower Lake in the consolation championship game of the Piner Tournament.
“They were good,” Lower Lake head coach Shannon Tubbs said. “They were athletic, fast, disciplined and their coaching was a class act all the way around. The score could have been a lot worse.”
Lower Lake (1-4) struggled shooting the ball from the opening tip, according to Tubbs.
“We faced a lot of adversity in this tournament, but they’re still fighting and grinding,” Tubbs said of his players. “I’m really proud of them.”
Shelby Sapeta’s seven points led the Trojans. Sapeta and Sam Hughes were named to the All-Tournament team.
Lower Lake returns to action Thursday against Colusa as the Durham Tournament opens.
