Five-day County of Lake holiday closure

Many offices at the County of Lake will be closed to the public for the entire Christmas week this year, according to county employees and the county’s website. The “Winter Holiday,” as the county refers to it on its website, will begin Dec. 23 and end Dec. 27.

This five-day closure appears to be new for most county departments, which closed for three days around Christmas in 2018.

A five-day closure is also planned for 2020, according to the county’s website. Complete information could not be obtained by press time regarding which county offices will close and which will remain open this year, but representatives from the county clerk, the district attorney, and county administration said their offices will be closed for the week. District Attorney Susan Krones said that the Lake County Superior Court will remain open each day except Christmas, noting that her attorneys will therefore still perform in-custody arraignments that week.

Deputy county administrator Matthew Rothstein said Wednesday that a press release was being planned to explain the long county holiday in further detail.
