Fatal traffic accident

A local man who died after his vehicle veered off of a roadway in Kelseyville on Friday afternoon has been identified as John William Roumiguiere, 65, of Lakeport. According to the California Highway Patrol, Roumiguiere was driving his 1992 Dodge Ram 3500 northbound on Waldo Lane, north of Soda Bay Road, at about 20 mph when the pickup departed from the road and collided with a fence and a coop before coming to a stop. A nearby witness called emergency personnel, who found Roumiguiere unresponsive. He was pronounced dead on scene. Drugs or alcohol were not suspected to be a factor in the accident, the CHP said. The Lake County Sheriff’s Office released Roumiguiere’s name on Monday.

‘War, Wine, and Walnuts: One Lake County Family’s Story’

A new book about Lake County history has been released.  “War, Wine, and Walnuts: One Lake County Family’s Story,” was written by Bill Nelson, a great-grandson of Louis Kugelman who came to Lake County in the 1870s.

Lake County history comes to life in the course of the family’s anecdotes, early politics, real estate transactions, a hunting accident, animal encounters, scandal, and building both the Lower Lake Grammar and High Schools.  It is Nelson’s hope the contributions made by Louis Kugelman, his daughter Rose, and “The Daddy of Lake County Walnuts” Walter Reichert to Lake County’s development will be rediscovered by a new generation.

Nelson is a retired U. S. Navy Commander and HeO2 Diving Officer (Civil Engineer Corps) and a registered California civil engineer.  He also served 16 years as Director of the Natrona County Public Library in Wyoming. He has won several writing awards.

“War, Wine, and Walnuts” is currently available at several locations including LakeWorks (305 North Main Street in Lakeport), the Sharpsteen Museum (Calistoga) and two Lake County Museum locations (Courthouse Museum in Lakeport and the Lower Lake Schoolhouse Museum).  Mail orders are possible by calling the Lake County Museum at (707) 263-4555.
