CLOVERDALE — Middletown pulled away from Cloverdale in the second half for a 56-31 victory in the consolation semifinals of the Cloverdale Junior Varsity Tournament on Friday at Cloverdale High School.

With his starters playing on tired legs after a dramatic 57-56 loss to Fortuna on Thursday night, Middletown coach Jon Hoogendoorn went to his reserves midway through the third quarter. They played so well he left them in down the stretch against the Eagles.

Brody Breeden led a balanced Middletown attack with 10 points, Cole Ketchum added nine more and Luke Astley and Lucas DaCosta finished with eight apiece.

Middletown is 8-2 on the season.

The Mustangs play an opponent to be determined in the consolation championship game Saturday at 3:30 p.m.

At Ukiah, the Kelseyville Knights hung in there for a half before Branson School of Ross pulled away to win a second-round game at the round-robin Ukiah Tournament.

“Their press got us at the end,” Kelseyville coach Oscar Lopez said.

Trailing 24-15 at halftime, the Knights made a handful of costly turnovers in the third quarter and also got into some serious foul trouble, according to Lopez.

Derek Huggins led Kelseyville with 11 points while Carson Mayo and Luke Watkins each had five.

The Knights play Ukiah on Saturday at 6:30 p.m. as the tournament wraps up.
