CLOVERDALE — Middletown High School’s junior varsity boys basketball team secured the consolation championship in the Cloverdale Tournament on Saturday with a 61-26 victory over the Ukiah freshman squad.

Lucas DaCosta led a balanced Middletown attack with 15 points while Cole Ketchum and Roberto Chaires joined him in double digits with 12 and 11 points, respectively. Luke Hoogendoorn added eight points.

Middletown (9-2) lost 57-56 to Fortuna in its tournament opener before coming back with wins over Cloverdale and Ukiah.

Hoogendoorn and Brody Breeden were named to the All-Tournament team.

In other JV boys tournament action Saturday:

Ukiah 40, Kelseyville 30

At Ukiah, the Kelseyville Knights fell to the Ukiah Wildcats in the third-place game of the Ukiah Tournament.

“We played them much better this time around,” Kelseyville coach Oscar Lopez said. “The first time we played they beat us by around 20.”

The Knights (5-5) actually led late into the second quarter before Ukiah went on a run to push ahead by eight at halftime.

“Some costly turnovers led to that,” Lopez said.

Tyler Leary’s 10 points paced the Knights while Derek Huggins added seven. Carson Mayo was named to the All-Tournament team.
