–Grace Hudson Museum, 431 S. Main St., will kick off the final weekend of the popular “Stitching California” exhibition. The Museum will open a two-week popup show in our public room that revisits the Vagina Quilt Project from 2002. That year, in support of V-Day 2002, the Mendocino Quilt Artist Guild created original art quilts reflecting themes of femininity, sensuality, birth, mothering, and womanhood. The quilts and the efforts of these Ukiah quilters were featured in the 2003 documentary film, “V-Day: Until the Violence Stops,” written by Eve Ensler, the author of the 1996 play, “The Vagina Monologues,” which became a global phenomenon. (The film will be screened at the Museum on Jan. 12 at 2 p.m.) “Revisiting the Vagina Quilt Project” is scheduled to run through Friday, Jan. 17. Please note: A few of the artworks in the popup show are anatomically explicit — viewer discretion is advised.
–Mama’s Medicinals, 328 N. State St., will feature work by Pete Ethan Castro, with Jean François Buy on guitar.
–Craft Distillers, 110 W. Clay St. features one-of-a-kind art pieces.
–Corner Gallery, 201 S. State St., will feature the art of Michael Romero. Michael says: “I want someone to see my artwork in their home like feathering a nest. ‘Art washes away from the soul the dust of everyday life.’–Pablo Picasso Our normal lives are spent nine-to-five working. Most people do not create. They get home, watch TV and tie up loose ends before starting the whole mundane process again. Art frees your mind and helps infiltrate your dreams for all to see and share. You expose your most special and intimate dreams for all to see. You open yourself up to criticism and praise; it is both a dangerous and rewarding thing.”
–Moonstone Gold, 104 W. Church St. Open Studio.
–Ukiah Valley Networking Agency, 104 N. School St., will feature the beautiful work by Gene Avery North. Gene will be on hand to discuss the stories behind her paintings.
