LAKE COUNTY— Thanks to the generosity of Sutter Lakeside Hospital employees, for the second year in a row, the Lake County Silver Foundation distributed holiday bags stuffed with blankets, socks, personal care items, snacks and other goodies to seniors around the lake.
The project is the inspiration of Kathleen Mondfrans, an emergency room nurse at Sutter Lakeside.
“We work with Kathleen, who organizes the project at the hospital,” explained Olga Steele, the Foundation secretary. “Basically, we provide canvas tote bags and a list of the kinds of items seniors need or enjoy and Kathleen and her co-workers do the rest,” she said.
“There are those at the hospital who know the value that seniors have given to their families, professions and communities. We want to remind seniors of their importance in all our lives and to bring a little Holiday cheer,” Mondfrans said.
Shawn Garrison, the Foundation’s Vice President, and Steele delivered the bags to each of the seven senior centers in Lake County. Each center issues the bags to seniors of their choosing. “We feel the center directors are in the best position to know who can most benefit from a holiday gift bag,” Garrison said.
“We are grateful to all the Sutter Lakeside Hospital employees for the opportunity to show our mutual appreciation of seniors, especially those that are home-bound and living in relative isolation,” said Steele.
The Silver Foundation is a nonprofit organization formed to support Lake County seniors and elders, the fastest growing demographic in Lake County.
Another project of the Foundation is the Annual Senior Summit. In 2020 the Foundation will hold the 4th annual summit on Saturday, April 4 at the Robinson Rancheria Resort and Casino.
