“This was the breakout game for Nathaly Velasco,” Upper Lake coach Angelina Arroyo said. “She had no hesitation. She ran the point and kept shooting. I’m very happy with her play.”

Arroyo also praised the play of Monlo-Duncan and Minnis.

“Lupy displayed strong leadership for her team,” Arroyo said. “She’s definitely my leader and she keeps the team together and focused on team goals.

“Tay did her job underneath. She rebounds and scores,” Arroyo added.

Upper Lake is now 8-4 on the season. The Cougars play the first of a four-game set Friday in Laytonville at 3:30 p.m. They open their North Central League II schedule on Tuesday against St. Vincent in Petaluma.
