Local mindfulness teacher and author JoAnn Saccato will present a free workshop for those curious about mindfulness on Thursday, Feb. 6, 2020 from 6 P.M to 7:30 P.M. The workshop will be held at Oom Transformations Yoga Studio, located at 5281 State Street in Kelseyville in the Umpqua Bank Center. The workshop is free and open to the public.
Ms. Saccato is a Mindfulness Training Institute certified teacher and author of Mindful and Intentional Living: A Path to Peace, Clarity and Freedom, a book that teaches the foundational practices of mindfulness and setting intentions for a more fulfilling life.
“This workshop is designed for those curious about mindfulness and wanting to explore mindfulness-based practices with gentle guidance,” explained Saccato. She has been practicing mindfulness for over 25 years and teaching in Lake County for the past seven.
Mindfulness is an umbrella term used for a large body of popular health and wellness practices based on purposefully bringing a curious, kind and non-judgmental attention to moment by moment experience. This scientifically proven approach helps reduce stress and stress-related illnesses, increase focus and attention, decrease incidences of and relapses with depression, reduce anxiety, reduce relapses in addiction, and aids in sleep and digestive disorders. It has also been shown to increase well being, life satisfaction and happiness, as well as improved social relationships.
Mary Oom, owner of Oom Transformations Yoga Studio was excited to have a mindfulness offering. “I’m always looking for opportunities for our practitioners to expand and deepen their practice,” she noted, “and mindfulness goes hand in hand with yoga.”
A brief history and definition of mindfulness, recent scientific findings, and simple guided mindfulness exercises including sensory awareness, gentle movement and a loving kindness practice will be explored at the 90-minute workshop.
Attendees are invited to wear comfortable clothing and easily removable shoes. Seated and standing exercises will be explored.
