Women’s Civic Club news
February is a busy month for the Lakeport Women’s Civic Club. Eight new members will be celebrated at the New Member Tea this Tuesday, Feb 11 at the Lakeport Lagoons Clubhouse. LWCC board members will share with new members a little bit about their respective positions in the hope of providing them with a better view of the inner workings of a club that provides as much as $10,000 dollars of support to city beautification, senior projects, children’s activities and historical education.
LWCC encourages every member to share whatever skills they possess by acting on committees or taking on leadership roles so that the club might continue to do the amazing work that the ladies have been doing since 1921 when they started out serving the first lunches in our public schools, planting the first shrubs in Library Park and affording the first wooden street signs on Main St. in Lakeport.
Back in the day, they held “socials” to help raise funds. In 2020, and for the last 26 years, they have hosted a Mad Hatter Luncheon and Fashion Show every year to the raise funds that they then distribute throughout the year to organizations such as Northlake Adult Day Center, Veteran’s Honor Guard, Community Relief efforts, vocational scholarships and greater endeavors such as Rocky, Jerusalem, Valley Fire Relief Fund, Friends of the Library, Victim’s Witness Program of Lake Co. and Westside Park.
This year the theme for our event will be International Kindness. Guests are being encouraged to pick a country, or represent their own, by wearing traditional ethnic costume. A wide range of cuisine and music will be provided with the idea of bringing together as many sights, sounds, tastes and traditions as possible.
Tickets for the event are $35 and will go on sale March 6. Doors will open at 11 a.m. on Saturday, May 9 at Boutique Winery with lunch, an International Fashion show, live and silent auction and an array of beautiful baskets that will be created by our team of experts from the numerous donations provided by our very thoughtful and generous businesses all around the lake.
For tickets or more information please call Helen Finch 707-972-1807.
