UPPER LAKE — Former Upper Lake High School state champion Adriana Lopez is having a pretty good month.
Last year’s California state champion at 121 pounds has been named the Mid-South Conference Freshman of the Year after winning the Mid-South Conference championship at 123 pounds with an upset victory over No. 1 seed Julia Vidallon of Life University (Georgia) in the finals. Vidallon was the No. 2-ranked 123-pounder in the nation when she met Lopez in the championship match.
Lopez, who now wrestles for Campbellsville University in Kentucky, went 10-7 during the regular season and was one of two Campbellsville freshmen to claim Mid-South Conference tournament titles, joining teammate Gabrielle Garcia.

“Adriana has developed the way I thought she would,” said Campbellsville head coach Lee Miracle, who was named the Mid-South Coach of the Year. “She had to adjust to college wrestling before she could evolve. That adjustment has been made.”
Miracle said the future is bright for Lopez. who is the second Lady Tiger to be named Mid-South Conference Freshman of the Year. The first was her teammate, McKayla Campbell (2017-18).
By virtue of her Mid-South Conference championship, Lopez has been named All-Conference first team, one of five Campbellsville wrestlers to earn that distinction this season.
