Thompson announces paid Wounded Warrior Fellowship

On Tuesday Rep. Mike Thompson (D-CA) announced he is now accepting applications for the House of Representatives’ paid Wounded Warrior Fellowship. Interested applicants can apply to work in any of Thompson’s district offices, including Napa, Santa Rosa, and Vallejo.

“As a combat Vietnam veteran, I am constantly working to find new ways to serve our veterans and ensure their expertise is reflected in my work in Congress,” said Thompson. “That’s why I am honored to announce a Wounded Warrior Fellowship in my office. All eligible veterans should consider applying and taking advantage of this opportunity to serve our district.”

The duties of the paid position could include but are not limited to working as a constituent services representative helping constituents resolve issues with federal agencies, attending local events and meetings on behalf of the Congressman, and performing legislative work. The Wounded Warrior Fellowship Program was established by the House of Representatives to provide employment opportunities for wounded or disabled veterans within member offices.

The program is limited to veterans who meet all of the following requirements:

Honorably discharged and released from active duty within the last five years, Terminal pay grades at or below E-5 or O-3, and 20% or greater service-connected disabilities (waived if you have a Purple Heart).

Please note that veterans who are in receipt of a 20-year or Temporary Early Retirement Authorization (TERA) retirement are not eligible for the program. Interested veterans should go to https://www.usajobs.gov/ and search “Wounded Warrior Fellowship Program” for more information and how to apply.

Passover service at Galilee Lutheran Church, Sunday.

Jesus’ Last Supper was actually a Jewish Passover. Rob Wertheim of Jews for Jesus will re-create the traditional Passover service and explain how it foreshadowed Jesus’ death and resurrection in a presentation called “Christ in the Passover” at Galilee Lutheran Church on Sunday, March 8 at 10 A.M.

Wertheim will set a table with items traditionally used at the Passover meal and detail their spiritual significance. He will also explain the connection between the events of the first Passover in Egypt and the redemption that Jesus accomplished, as well as the deep bond between the ancient Passover feast and the Christian communion celebration today.

Jews for Jesus has presented “Christ in the Passover” at over 38,000 churches. It has been enthusiastically received by Christians who appreciate learning more about the Jewish backgrounds of their faith.

Rob Wertheim will be happy to answer questions after the presentation. Call (707) 279-4832 or visit http://www.galileekelseyville.org/ for more information. There is no admission charge.

Hope Rising Leads Lake County’s Community Health Needs Assessment

Hope Rising leads the process for the first Community Health Needs Assessment (CHNA) for Lake County that includes community member input and 19 agencies to determine the next three-year health priorities.

Hope Rising Lake County, convening 19 agencies, hospitals, health agencies, community-based organizations, County of Lake Government and community members, worked with Conduent Healthy Communities Institute to conduct the 2019 CHNA.

Hope Rising hosted focus groups and key informant interviews with tribal leaders, tribal members, youth, seniors, neighbors experiencing homelessness and multiple county collaboratives and coalitions. More than twice the amount of community input surveys was received to inform the 2019 CHNA than compared to previous years.

Findings from the 2019 CHNA will be used by Hope Rising, as well as all Lake County healthcare agencies, to identify, develop, and target strategies for the next three years to connect residents with services to improve health outcomes and the quality of life of residents in Lake County. Following a prioritization toolkit, participants scored identified health problems to create a significant health needs list. From that list, the four prioritized areas selected are: Homelessness and Housing, Substance Misuse, Cancer Screening and Prevention, and Community Engagement and Outreach.

“Collectively, our combined resources can spread wider and reach deeper into the areas where meaningful change can occur” says Allison Panella, Hope Rising Executive Director. “Our goals are simple. Meet each person, where they are with the resources they need.”
