Thompson Votes to Pass Coronavirus funding package

This week Rep. Mike Thompson (D-CA) voted to pass the bipartisan Coronavirus Preparedness and Response Supplemental Appropriations Act. The package included Thompson’s legislation to waive existing telehealth restrictions during the Coronavirus public health emergency. This bipartisan provision would suspend some Medicare telehealth restrictions to allow seniors to get medical care via telehealth. Many Medicare beneficiaries would also be able to get health care in their own homes via telehealth. This increases health care opportunities for those who are sick and helps to slow the spread of the virus.

“We must ensure our communities have the tools and resources needed to combat the spread of the Coronavirus, which is why I voted to pass this bipartisan supplemental appropriations package today that provides more than $8 billion to do just that,” said Thompson. “The legislation also includes my bill to waive telehealth restrictions during the outbreak. Telehealth has already proven to be an effective and efficient way of delivering care, and using it in a virus situation like the Coronavirus will allow more people to get care no matter where they live and cut down on the spread of the virus by reducing contact between sick and healthy people. We must get this package signed into law as soon as possible to help keep our communities safe and healthy.”

Tamika Hamilton advances to General Election

With 100% of precincts reporting, California Republican Party endorsed candidate, Tamika Hamilton, has secured enough votes to advance to the General Election.  Despite being outspent five-to-one, Hamilton has garnered twice as many votes as her nearest competitor and will now face off against Rep. John Garamendi in the Fall.

“I am so honored and humbled by the faith the voters have placed in me and my message to them remains unchanged: I will not let you down.  For too long our district’s farmers, businesses and families have lacked representation that put their needs first.  That ends today,” said Tamika Hamilton.  “While our district faces real problems, Rep. Garamendi seems more focused on challenging the President’s son to a fist fight, than offering real solutions.  After a lifetime of putting partisan politics first, it’s time to retire career politician John Garamendi.”

“This is a hard-fought win for an inspiring, new breed of Republican candidate like Tamika Hamilton,” said campaign strategist Alex Avetoom. “This campaign has the new party leadership at the state and county level to thank for their steadfast support and we look forward to retiring career politician John Garamendi this Fall.”

A victory for Hamilton in California’s third congressional district would make history as she would be the first black woman from her party to represent California in the United States Congress.
