HEALDSBURG — Shelby Sapeta spotted the Healdsburg Greyhounds a 2-0 lead in the first inning, but there was no stopping Lower Lake’s senior pitcher the rest of the way as the Lower Lake Trojans beat the Greyhounds 14-2 in non-league softball action Friday in Healdsburg.

The game was called after six innings because of the 10-run rule.

Sapeta allowed her only hit during Healdsburg’s two-run first. She blanked the Greyhounds the rest of the way, striking out 15 and walking only one.

“Shelby was on most of the game,” Lower Lake head coach Brett Doud said. “We started out a little sluggish, but we played pretty well after that.”

Only one of the runs allowed by Sapeta was earned.

Lower Lake supported its pitcher with 12 hits. Jordan Rivera led the way by going 3-for-4 with a double and five RBIs. Hayli Hartman and Anna Gutierrez each added two hits and two RBIs.

“Jordan Rivera came out and hit the ball real well,” Doud said.

Lower Lake pushed in front to stay with a six-run top of the second. The Trojans added another un in the fourth, three in the fifth and four more in the sixth.

In other softball action Friday:

Esparto 14, Upper Lake 12

At Esparto, after spotting Esparto a 13-1 lead in the first two innings, the Upper Lake Cougars battled back before losing to the Trojans in a non-league game called after 5 1/2 innings because of darkness.

“I’m proud of the girls,” Upper Lake head coach Nick Williamson said. “They fought their way back to make a game of it. We had a chance to catch up but just didn’t quite pull it off in that last inning.”

Esparto used a nine-run bottom of the second inning to open up a 13-1 lead. Upper Lake (1-3) scored twice in the third, four times in the fourth and five times in the fifth to make it a two-run game. The Trojans picked up their final run in the bottom of the third.

Mallory Henry, Tristin Rhodes and Laylah Medina had two hits apiece for the Cougars, who finished with 10 hits overall as did Esparto. Starting pitcher Rylee Dalton took the loss.

Upper Lake travels to Kelseyville on Tuesday. Game time is 4 p.m.
