UPPER LAKE — The Upper Lake Cougars scored 18 times in the bottom of the second inning while knocking off the Potter Valley Bearcats 23-8 in non-league softball action Thursday afternoon in Upper Lake. The game was called after 4 ½ innings because of the 10-run rule.
Hailey Reams doubled and drove in three runs for the Cougars (1-2) while winning pitcher Rylee Dalton helped her own cause by going 2-for-2. Mallory Henry doubled and drove in a run.
The Cougars played at Esparto on Friday and remain on the road Tuesday to play Kelseyville at 4 p.m.
In other softball action Thursday:
Middletown 17, Healdsburg 1
At Healdsburg, Emma Hansen pitched four innings to notch the victory as the Middletown Mustangs improved to 2-0 with a five-inning win over the Healdsburg Greyhounds. The game was called early because of the 10-run rule.
Hansen struck out five. Maddie Ferguson worked the final inning, striking out two.
Harper Moreno led the Mustangs’ 13-hit attack, going 3-for-4 with two doubles and a triple while also driving in three runs. Lily Martin went 2-for-5 with a double and three RBIs, and Hansen went 2-for-3 with a double and a RBI.
The Mustangs scored five runs in each of the first two innings to open up a 10-0 lead.
Middletown hosts Justin-Siena on Tuesday at 4 p.m.
Ukiah 12, Kelseyville 8
At Kelseyville, the Ukiah Wildcats used an eight-run second inning to beat the Kelseyville Knights in a game called after six innings because of darkness.
Johannah Hellgren started on the mound for the Knights and took the loss. She struck out two and walked six in 1 2/3 innings. Ryann Taylor pitched the final 4 1/3 innings.
Maddy Barker went 2-for-3 for the Knights (1-1) and drove in a run. Taylor, MJ Boardman and Paula Vargas also had hits.
Kelseyville hosts Upper Lake on Tuesday at 4 p.m.
St. Vincent 7, Clear Lake 2
At Petaluma, Ali McKnight and Emma Boatright both had doubles while Shaelyn McIntire and Shelby Ingham knocked in runs as the Clear Lake Cardinals fell to the St. Vincent Mustangs in non-league action.
McIntire went the distance for the Cardinals, striking out three and walking two in six innings. She allowed six hits.
Raina Clifton and Suga Posh also had hits for Clear Lake, which scored both of its runs in the top of the seventh. After the game, the Cardinals continued south to attend Clear Lake’s NorCal boys basketball playoff game in San Francisco.
“We did a great job putting the ball in play from the first inning,” Clear Lake head coach Racheal Harmon said. “Mac did a great job hitting all her spots, but you can’t commit five errors and expect to beat a team like St. Vincent.”
Clear Lake travels to Ukiah on Tuesday for a 4 p.m. game with the Wildcats.
