LAKE COUNTY— Longtime freelance photographer for the Record-Bee Bob Minenna has been recognized by the California News Publishers Association as a top finalist for their 2019 Journalism Awards Print Contest in the category of News Photo.

After a busy few weeks of sorting through 2,969 entries and compiling the judges’ decisions, the top five finalists in each category were determined and announced this week. Minenna, a Lower Lake resident was chosen for his coverage (photo) of the incident.

Firefighters were toned out in late January in response to various active wildland fires. A blaze on Manning Flat on Highway 29 and one at Diener Drive burned into the Rock Quarry. Before the day was out, personnel totaling 172 emergency responders including three helicopters, four water tenders, four air tankers from various agencies including Cal Fire, Lake County Protection District and the California Highway Patrol had all but contained the “Glass fire” incident which consisted of at least seven individual fires in the area between Kelseyville and Lower Lake and helped with the flow of traffic during a period which also included a traffic collision at Highway 29 and Kits corner.

Winners will be announced at the California Journalism Awards Gala at the Long Beach Convention Center on Saturday, May 16.
