CLEARLAKE
2 arrested after parole search yields stolen gun
On April 17, Clearlake Police officers conducted a parole search on Eldridge Persons, 36, of Clearlake, in the 16400 block of 34th Ave.
During the parole search at the home, a rental car was found parked directly in front of the home. Both Persons and his wife Jasmine Colon, 33, of Clearlake, who came home during the search, denied any knowledge of the rental vehicle.
Keys to this rental car were found in home and during a search of that vehicle, a stolen loaded firearm was found under the driver’s seat. The firearm was reported stolen out of Contra Costa County. It was discovered that Colon had actually rented the vehicle but evidence located suggests that Persons had also been using the vehicle.
Both Persons and Colon were transported and booked into the Lake County Jail on several felony violations. Colon was later released on citation due to the COVID-19 pandemic however, Persons was also being held on a parole hold and remained in custody as of April 18.

Firefighters and cops rescue woman, dog, stuffed bear from house fire
On April 18 about 4:47 p.m., officers were dispatched to the area of 32nd Avenue and Wilkinson Avenue for a structure fire spreading to vehicles.
When officers arrived, a trailer was fully engulfed, power lines were down and the fire was spreading to a house with an elderly female and dog inside. Sergeant Joseph, Officer Barreto and Officer Shores entered the residence and located the woman, who was unaware of the fire. They assisted her and her dog out of the residence. After doing so, the center part of the home’s roof collapsed and flames billowed out.
While firefighters worked to contain the fire, Officer Shores learned there was a stuffed bear in the home that contained the woman’s deceased husband’s ashes. Officer Shores and Lake County Fire Protection District Fire Apparatus Engineer Pindell re-entered the home and were able to retrieve the bear.
While it was initially though a dog perished in the initial trailer fire, about an hour after the initial call, the dog showed up, much to the happiness of its owner.
Two officers sustained minor injuries at the scene that did not require further treatment. One is believed to have sustained a glancing strike from ammunition that was cooking off in the fire.
