UKIAH — A basketball camp for girls heading into the third through eighth grades will be held starting Thursday and running through Aug. 13 at Mendocino College in Ukiah.

Mendocino College women’s basketball coach Kat Escobedo, a former multi-sports star at Upper Lake High School, will lead the camp, which is divided into two sessions — third, fourth and fifth grades from 5 p.m. to 6 p.m., and sixth, seventh and eighth grades from 6:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. Each session is limited to a maximum of 11 campers because of COVID-19 protocols. The cost is $60 per camper.

According to Escobedo, the camp is for young females who want to learn the fundamentals of basketball, improve their skills and further their on-court athleticism in a fun and engaging environment. The focus will be on dribbling, passing, shooting, defense and spacing with many scrimmages.

All sign-ups are by online registration at https://ukiah/recdesk.com.

Campers must bring their own water bottles as drinking fountains are closed. Parents need to wear masks while dropping off and picking up their children at the gym. If watching the camp sessions from the stands, masks must be worn at all times and socially distancing is required. Bathrooms are available for emergencies only, so please plan accordingly.
