LAKE COUNTY— The third session in the Community Call to Action: A Loving Response to Systemic Racism in America series will host guest speaker Joy Chiu, MPA, who will present Committing to Everyone’s Genius and Well-Being: A No-Regrets Strategy for Social Justice and Restorative Economics. The event takes place on Sunday, July 26, 2020, 12 P.M. to 1:30 P.M. through the Zoom platform. Pre-registration is required.
The workshop is free and open to those interested committing to actions in their local community to help dismantle policies and practices embedded in systems and institutions that create obstacles for some Americans while offering unearned opportunities for others.
Guest speaker Joy Chiu is the founder of Vital Shifts, a consulting firm that specializes in change leadership to achieve social justice and restorative economics.
“I am a compulsively integrative social architect!” Chiu explained. “Where humans have created cultural habits of division, disconnection and compartmentalization, I help pioneering change agents identify unifying, whole-systems strategies so they can be the change they seek in the world.”
Chiu, who holds a Masters in Public Administration, draws much from being the guinea pig of her own life. “Experimenting with leaps of faith, repeatedly confronting fears of uncertainty and unpredictability, I translate practices of internal alignment and intimacy into manifesting relational coherence and unthinkable possibilities for alignment in community contexts,” she said.
Having worked in the fields of arts and sciences, across an array of roles in private, non-profit and public institutions, Ms. Chiu brings her transdisciplinary perspectives, unifying meta-strategies and meta-designs in service of those yearning to be part of a holistically responsive and regenerative, cultural and economic revolution. Her signature “Finite to Infinite Power Pathway” map has been a tool for guiding others to systematically turn their “Fear of the Unknown” into touching “Magic in the Mystery.”
As the nation continues to grapple with what it means to dismantle white supremacy, debate the existence of systemic racism and, spin in competing narratives, Chiu will share from her personal experience and offer a recontextualization of the self-empowering, collective healing opportunities we have in our midst.
“I’m excited that such a dynamic social change agent will help guide our group of dedicated and thoughtful community members with strategies that can inspire us into further conscious, positive and supportive action,” noted JoAnn Saccato, M.A., co-coordinator and moderator of the event series.

Sunday’s session will include Chiu’s presentation, a question and answer period and a breakout session strategizing next steps. All are welcome who are committed to taking positive action in their local community, whether Lake County or beyond, and need not have attended prior sessions to participate.
