SONOMA— In lieu of the beloved Love of the Land event, which couldn’t be held because of the COVID-19 Pandemic and Shelter in Place Order, Sonoma County Farm Bureau hosted a take home barbecue fundraiser on Thursday, July 16. Farm Bureau staff and volunteers distributed almost 400 dinners, which included a total of approximately 800 pounds of tri-tip.

Dinners, which were available only by preordering, served four or eight people and included a whole tri-tip roast, Lombardi’s barbecue baked beans, Franco American garlic bread, Lori Bianchi’s pasta salad, and Costeaux’s classic chocolate chip cookies. Those who purchased dinners for eight also received a bottle of Premium Sonoma County wine and customers could also add on a fresh baked Kozlowski apple or three berry pie.

Sonoma County Farm Bureau President Jeff Carlton said that he was thrilled with the success of the fundraiser.

“We appreciate the strong outpouring of support for our organization and even though we couldn’t have our annual Love of the Land event it was great to be able to see so many of our members, supporters, and friends as they picked up their barbecue meals,” Carlton said. “We couldn’t have done it without a hardworking group of volunteers and our awesome barbecue crew.”

Even during tough times like these, Sonoma County Farm Bureau works daily to protect and promote agriculture. The COVID-19 Pandemic and Shelter in Place Order forced us to cancel our fundraisers that sustain our organization and allow us to provide benefits to our members. Fundraisers like the Take Home Barbecue Fundraiser help us continue to support our local farmers and ranchers through our communication, outreach, advocacy and educational efforts.

Thank you to all who purchased dinners or volunteered their time and talents to our effort. A special thank you to Costeaux French Bakery, Lombardis Catering, Lori Bianchi, 2020 Farm Bureau Foundation of Sonoma County Scholarship recipients, and the Sonoma County Farm Bureau Board Barbecue Crew including Domenic Carinalli, Doug Beretta, John Bidia, John Olufs, and Pat Burns. We greatly appreciate your support. Thank you for helping make this fundraiser a success.
