A hectic weekend of fire suppression culminated in the “Sites incident,” a wildland fire which broke out Sunday afternoon at approximately 4:15 P.M. in the 3300 block of Sites Lodoga Road, Colusa County. Sonoma Lake-Napa CAL Fire units responded and according to fire fighting officials, crews made great progress working on containment lines overnight Sunday. On Monday morning, crews continued working to strengthen control lines. CAL Fire stated that with the hard work and quick actions of personnel at the scene, crews were able hold the fire to the east of Squaw Creek Inn. Twelve structures were threatened spread out over 540 acres. Evacuations and road closures were still in effect as of Monday morning with the fire 40 percent contained. Numerous firefighting air tankers from throughout the state are flying fire suppression missions as conditions allow. Crews included 24 engines, eight tankers and 15 dozers from agencies including Indian Valley Fire and Rescue, Williams Fire Protection Authority, Maxwell Fire Protection District and the Colusa Fire Department.

UPDATE: Officials noted containment at 55 percent late Monday. The fire is still under investigation but evacuation orders have been reduced to advisory. Road closures have been lifted and access will be open to residents only until 9 p.m, after which roads will be open to the public.
