ANDERSON — Kyle Tellstrom of Ukiah takes a 27-point lead atop the North State Modified Series point standings into Saturday’s race at the Shasta County Speedway in Anderson.
Racing starts at 2 p.m.
It’s the fourth points race of the season for the NSMS drivers, and it’s a biggie, as the annual Lloyd Burton Against the Wind Modified Challenge has the richest purse in the history of the seven-year-old racing circuit. The winner’s share alone is $2,000.
Tellstrom has 231 points and leads defending NSMS champion Scott Winters, who is second with 204. Darrin Sullivan (196), Mike Sullivan (182) and Cody Braund (180) round out the top five in the 2020 standings. Other drivers in the top 10 are Ian Elliott (170), Dustin DeRosier (166), Chris Salmina (164), Charlie Collins (153) and Jeremy Nowlin (152).
Tellstrom (Lakeport), Collins (Lakeport) and Cameron Austin (Eureka) have won the first three NSMS races this season, which has been shortened by the COVID-19 pandemic. Austin won last weekend’s race at the Redwood Acres Raceway in Eureka. It was his first modified race of the season.
After Saturday’s race in Anderson, the NSMS season wraps up Oct. 24 with the Bob Lehman Classic at the Stockton 99 Speedway.
