California statewide fire summary
Today there remain over 11,500 firefighters on the frontlines of 21 wildfires across the state, 13 of which remain major incidents. Yesterday, firefighters responded to 34 new wildfires across the State, all of which were quickly contained.
A Fire Weather Watch is in effect for most of Northern California for gusty winds and low humidity beginning Wednesday, continuing through Friday. Locally breezy conditions with wind gusts around 20-25 mph, with some wind prone areas potentially experiencing gusts up to 60 mph. Dry conditions and above normal temperatures continue across the State.
Since the beginning of the year, there have been over 8,500 wildfires that have burned well over 4.1 million acres in California. To date, the total number of fatalities statewide is 31 and more than 9,200 structures have been destroyed.
Do you know that if the power in your home goes out before you can evacuate from a wildfire, your escape can become much more challenging, especially if it is dark outdoors. No lights, being unable to open your garage door and finding your go-bag are just a few of the obstacles for which you should be prepared.
