LAKE COUNTY— According to County Health Department officials, the department is needing to make some adjustments to the COVID testing schedule at various sites due to the changing weather, staffing issues, and the holidays.
The Lakeport site will be moved from the Mendocino College campus to the Lake County Health Department at 922 Bevins Ct. for our Thursday and Friday testing days. The Clearlake site will be Redbud Library, located at 14785 Burns Valley Rd, Clearlake.
Here is the upcoming schedule:
- Thursday November 19, the test site will be closed due to a planned protest. All appointments for the November 19 flu clinic have been filled, and will be happening at the scheduled time.
- Friday, November 20, the hours will go from 9 to 2 p.m., in Lakeport at the Health Department.
- Mon November 23, Tues November 24, the test site will be operating at the Redbud Library in Clearlake, from 9 to 12 p.m.
- Wednesday November 25, the site will be in Lakeport at the Health Department from from 9 to 12 p.m. The Middletown site will be cancelled that day.
- Thurs November 26, Fri November 27, the site will be cancelled due to the holidays.
- On Monday November 30, the department will resume the usual schedule.
“With the new surge in cases locally and around the state, we encourage everyone to have a safe Thanksgiving and stay home with people you usually live with,” officials noted adding that this holiday season is an important time to be particularly careful.
Officials also stated that they are seeing an increase in the number of people getting COVID testing this week, apparently because they think a negative test means they are safe to travel. “Remember, getting a test before essential travel is reasonable, but getting a negative test result is only a snapshot for the moment. It does not mean that you are safe to travel, or that you won’t get the virus if you come into contact with someone who has it,” health department officials noted.
They added that given the high demand now, there may not be enough appointments to get a test. Officials stated that if residents need a test and can’t get an appointment, they are urged to check with their medical provider. Also, LabCorp has a mail-in option, residents can go to their website, and they can order a kit to be shipped to their house. They then have to take the sample, and mail it off. Officials note many people are getting results within 24 to 48 hours using this method.
“We are very concerned about the rise in cases that will come with increased travel and mixing of households around Thanksgiving. Please do your part in keeping our community safe by taking extra precautions this holiday season.”
