Hurry up and wait

Athletes keeping active as COVID-19 surge keeps 2020 fall sports season on ice

Hector Sanchez was working out in goal Monday during a Lower Lake High School boys soccer voluntary practice that drew a handful of prospective players. Monday was originally designated as the first day for official practices for the traditional fall sports of soccer, football, volleyball and cross country, which were delayed from their normal August start because of the COVID-19 pandemic. However, the California Interscholastic Federation announced last week that fall sports teams won't begin until sometime in January, at the earliest, because it was still awaiting word from the California Department of Public Health on health and safety guidelines that need to be in place before sporting activity can begin. Until that happens, teams can hold voluntary workouts with COVID-19 criteria in place such as no sharing of balls and social distancing. Masks are also recommended. (Photos by Bob Minenna)
