A Great Egret forages for food along the Clear Lake shoreline on an unseasonably warm fall afternoon Tuesday near Lakeport. The birds are incredibly patient and remain nearly motionless while waiting for their prey, in this case fingerling-sized fish, to come into range, at which point they quickly strike. The National Weather Service is predicting a chance of rain later this weekend and even a possibility of snow in the higher elevations, which would be a welcome change from the recent pattern of dry weather.
