Middletown’s offense simulates a running play sans ball during a voluntary workout Thursday afternoon at the school’s practice field. The Mustangs continue to hold twice-a-week practices with the hope that a season will take place at some point next year although no competition is allowed before Jan. 25 under recently released California Department of Public Health Guidelines. What sports can take place is also tied to a county’s COVID-19 color tier. Football is allowed when a county reaches the orange tier, which is two steps above the purple tier that Lake County, and most of the state, now finds itself in because of the recent surge in coronavirus cases.
