Mediacom offers $60,000 in Scholarships to H.S. Seniors; Online applications now available for students in all Mediacom areas

Mediacom Communications is offering $60,000 in scholarship support for high school seniors who plan to obtain further education. The scholarship program is in its 20th consecutive year and Mediacom’s investment will award $1,000 World Class Scholarships to 60 high school seniors.

Scholarship recipients are given the flexibility to use the financial award to support post-secondary college costs or vocational training from an accredited institution starting in the fall of 2021. Award selection is based on academic achievement and leadership.

Applications for Mediacom’s World Class Scholarships are available online at www.mediacomworldclass.com. All high schools in Mediacom-served communities were sent informational cards asking school officials to make seniors aware of the scholarship and encourage application submissions on or before the Feb. 15, 2021 deadline.

“As a company, Mediacom makes it a priority to give back to communities in which we do business, and one of the best ways is to invest in promising students who are our future leaders,” said Mediacom Regional Vice President Steve Purcell.

Applicants do not have to be Mediacom customers but must live in areas where Mediacom’s
fiber-rich broadband network delivers Gigabit-speed internet service. Recipients will be selected from the 21 states where Mediacom’s residential customers reside. A complete list of communities in Mediacom service areas is included with the online application. Inquiries may be sent to scholarship@mediacomcc.com.

Salvation Army urges community to give

As 2020 comes to a close, The Salvation Army is calling on the community to make one last gift to help their neighbors in need. Donations made to YearEnd.GoSalArmy.org will help families, single parents, and individuals struggling to make ends meet. That generosity goes both ways—making a gift before January 1 benefits you as well thanks to the CARES Act $300 universal charitable tax deduction.

Your gift is needed now more than ever. The Salvation Army has worked overtime this year to meet the growing need due to the pandemic. In 2019, the nonprofit served a total of 388,961 individuals with things like food, rent and utility assistance, housing in the Del Oro Division which serves Northern California and Northern Nevada. In 2020, The Salvation Army has served nearly 550,000 people in that region. That’s a 29 percent increase in demand. Breaking it down further, in Northern Nevada, the nonprofit served nearly 40,000 people in 2020, which is a 35 percent increase from 2019. In Northern California, The Salvation Army served nearly 510,000 individuals in 2020, which is a 28 percent increase from the year before.

“This year has certainly been difficult, but The Salvation Army continues to provide vital services to those affected by COVID-19,” said Major Ivan Wild, Salvation Army Divisional Commander. “We have greatly increased our services and the demand does not seem to be slowing down anytime soon. We are hoping to move into 2021 with the resources needed to meet these unprecedented times. A year end gift to The Salvation Army will ensure our position to help people in need in the new year and beyond. Thank you for your support and may God bless you and your family.”

Donations can be mailed to your local Salvation Army or given online at YearEnd.GoSalArmy.org. All donations made through the website will stay in the community in which it’s given. New this year, The Salvation Army is now able to accept cryptocurrency from Bitcoin and Ethereum. Those who wish to give cryptocurrency can do so online at salarmy.us/crypto.
