The week of January 11-18 continued the start of a busy new year in terms of local and regional news. The state unveiled Gov. Gavin Newsom’s $227 billion proposed budget which included additional public health money for local health departments stirring the state’s pandemic response. Various school boards also held their first meeting of the year including LUSD which discussed the logistics of new COVID testing protocols for educators and staff. The week concluded with a rally and protest in downtown Lakeport where parents, coaches and players asked for the continuation of school sports, the bulk of which have been shut down since last spring due to the pandemic.
