LAKE COUNTY — The Sierra Club Lake Group will host Mendocino National Forest Upper Lake and Covelo Ranger Districts District Ranger Frank Aebly and Fuels Officer Hinda Darner at their next community meeting on Thursday, Feb. 11, 2021 at 6 P.M. The presentation and discussion will be held via Zoom video conference and live-streamed on Facebook. The meeting is free and open to the public. Pre-registration is required to attend via Zoom.

The presentation will report on progress on post-fire restoration activities within the footprint of the 2018 Ranch fire, focused primarily on the Upper Lake Ranger District above the towns of Nice and Lucerne. Much progress has been made with Burned Area Emergency Response implantation complete, hazard tree removal along roads, and planning of a 40,000+ acre post-fire restoration project. The collaborative process of planning and implementing the North Shore Restoration project will be presented within the framework of shared-stewardship. The Environmental Analysis, funding sources, and opportunities for public involvement will be discussed.

“We’ve been looking forward to this presentation — originally scheduled for March 2020 but derailed by Covid — for more than a year now,” noted Sierra Club Lake Group Conservation Chair, Victoria Brandon. “We’re particularly excited because Forest Service recovery plans address post-fire water quality issues as well as habitat recovery, and because a significant research component is included.”

To register for the event, visit the online calendar on Lake Group’s website, www.sierraclub.org/redwood/lake. Registrants will receive access information via email a few days prior to the event. Zoom space is limited, so the forum will also be live-streamed via the Lake Group’s Facebook page at www.facebook.com/sierraclublake.
