High school and community college sports advocates were in attendance Friday during one of three 'Let Them Play CA' rallies held in the North Coast Section, this one starting out at Second and D streets in Santa Rosa before relocating to Third and D streets and finally Third Street and Mendocino Avenue at Old Courthouse Square because of increased traffic flow. A total of 16 'Let Them Play CA' rallies took place on Friday at the same time throughout California. The grassroots organization of parents wants the state to immediately re-open youth sports despite the COVID-19 pandemic. There have been no games or meets since mid-March of 2020. 'Let Them Play CA' advocates claim the nearly yearlong closure of youth sports is seriously affecting the mental health of students. Several Lake County residents took part in the rally, which received a fair share of attention from passing motor vehicles who honked their horns in support.
