LAKE COUNTY
A Statement from Moke Simon, District 1 Supervisor, regarding the MAHA Project
When the Lake County Board of Supervisors approved the Guenoc Valley Mixed Use Planned Development Project (the MAHA Project) on July 21, 2020, we did it because it was a truly exemplary project. We did our due diligence, and we stand behind that decision.
In the planning stages, there was considerable public outreach, and there is strong community support. It is clear from the project’s design great respect has been paid to the beauty and rural nature, and the rich Tribal history, of Lake County.
Our Board keeps public safety front and center in our minds when we make any decision. As approved, this project will enhance fire safety, adding a fire station and helipad.
The MAHA Project also promises to be an economic engine for local small business. Our Board’s continued support of this project is an investment in Lake County’s future.

City updates
Due to the limited number of ICU beds and rising numbers of COVID-19 hospitalizations, California has introduced a new regional stay-at-home order for regions where ICU capacity falls below 15%. Lake County has been placed in the Northern California Region which also includes Del Norte, Glenn, Humboldt, Lassen, Mendocino, Modoc, Shasta, Siskiyou, Tehama, and Trinity counties.
When the Northern California Region does hit the threshold, the order will be in effect within 24 hours and will remain for at least three weeks; it will be evaluated each week thereafter. When regional lockdowns are lifted, counties again will be categorized by the color-coded system. For a complete listing and additional guidance please see the State’s website at: https://www.gov.ca.gov/2020/12/03/california-health-officials-announce-a-regional-stay-at-home-order-triggered-by-icu-capacity/
The City of Lakeport continues to encourage its residents to be diligent, stay safe, wear masks appropriately, and wash hands. The local businesses are already struggling from this pandemic. Before ordering online, please look at the ways to shop safely and buy local. For businesses near you, please reference Business Organizations and Events (lakecountyca.gov). Outdoor recreation is additionally encouraged; Lake County provides a list of over 100 miles of local trails.
For the businesses who are already struggling, the state has announced a variety of opportunities at Businesses and employers – Coronavirus COVID-19 Response (ca.gov)
Honoring Charlie Jolin
In June of 2020, the Westside Community Park Committee approached the Lakeport City Council and requested that Westside Park Road be renamed to honor Charlie Jolin and to recognize Charlie’s commitment to the park and the city. The Committee believed there would be no Westside Community Park if it were not for Charlie.
Charlie is recognized for other commitments as well: instrumental in the development of Library Park, member/chair of the Lakeport Planning Commission, chairperson of the Citizen’s Advisory Committee to the development of the City’s general plan and long time Boy Scout leader. Charlie received the Stars of Lake County award for Lifetime Achievement in 2014.
After several meetings with the Planning Commission and City Council, as well as public hearing notices and signs placed on Westside Park Road, Council approved the name change.
On January 19, 2021, it was officially renamed to Charlie Jolin Way. While the street signs have been changed, mapping platforms still reflect Westside Park Road. When providing directions, residents may want to advise travelers of the new street name.
