Stars of Lake County set for April 24

Stars of the Lake County will be held on Saturday, April 24.  Nominations are being accepted for the 23rd annual Stars of Lake County Community Awards.  Due to the pandemic, we are moving forward to plan a virtual event, with details to follow. A full list of all Stars recipients is available on the Lake County website: www.lakecochamber.com.

Nominations can be submitted by anyone and please remember that details are especially important, especially the contact information for your nominee.  The Chamber notifies every nominee when we receive their nomination. Forms and category information can be found at www.lakecochamber.com with the deadline for nominations on Wednesday, March 31 by close of business, or postmarked by that date.

There are 22 categories covering a broad spectrum of all our communities, businesses, volunteers, and organizations.  All of us work and/or volunteer with very deserving businesses, people and organizations that deserve to be recognized for the work they do to make life in Lake County special.

There is no limit to the number of nominations that can be submitted for each category.  Nominations have been received to date for the following categories: Woman of the Year; Arts Award Professional; Humanitarian/Marla Ruzicka Memorial Award; Local Hero of the Year; New Business of the Year; Organization of the Year (Non-profit/paid staff) and Small Business of the Year.

Previous year award categories have included Senior of the Year; the Naomi Bruce Memorial Volunteer of the Year award and Male and Female Student of the Year.

Lake County’s Chamber of Commerce CEO Melissa Fulton said Stars would not be possible without community sponsorships and we have many who have supported this program since its inception. The list of 2021 sponsors will be posted soon.

If you have an interest in sponsoring an award, call the Chamber at 263-5092.

According to Chamber leadership organizing the event, the Stars Selection Committee will be reviewing all nominations and will be meeting April 14  to cast their secret ballot votes.  The Committee is comprised of 12 individuals from various areas of Lake County.

For more information or if you have questions about Stars, please contact Melissa Fulton, CEO/CTA at (707) 263-5092.

Hope Rising participating in Aligning Systems for Health deep dive engagement

Aligning Systems for Health (AH4H) has invited Hope Rising to participate in a research study focused on improving the understanding of alignment of social services, public health, and health care in Accountable Communities for Health (ACH). Over the next four months, the study will focus on the degree to which health equity is impacted or results from current collaboration models in Lake County.

AH4H chose eight ACHs from California and Washington to participate in in-depth engagement as a “deep-dive site” to focus on how cross-sector alignment can advance the opportunity for everyone to have a fair and just opportunity to be as healthy as possible. Hope Rising is one of three of the thirteen ACHs in California that was selected to carry out this critical work by identifying, testing, and sharing what works to align health systems and practices and better address the goals and needs of the people of our communities.

As a deep dive site, Hope Rising will invite stakeholders and community members that engage with them to participate in a survey, a series of interviews and a focus group to share their perspectives about what is working, for whom, and why. Hope Rising will share the survey with stakeholders on March 10. Following a review of the information, AH4H will prepare a tailored report to Hope Rising in the summer of 2021. Public results of the research will be available in May 2022.

PHIL creates lasting change by providing a collaborative space for incubation, acceleration, and disseminating solutions to public health. Participation in this research study will offer national recognition through reference in scientific publications, at national conferences, and in book chapters, and allow Hope Rising to contribute to the generation of new knowledge that can benefit other ACHs and similar multi-sector collaboratives.

Accountable Communities for Health (ACH) are community-based partnerships formed across sectors such as health care, housing, social services, public health, employment training, and economic development to focus on a shared vision and responsibility for the health of the community.
