Skye Mateer and her Kelseyville High School softball teammates are rapidly approaching their first action of the 2021 season. The Knights host the Upper Lake Cougars on Thursday at 4 p.m. in a scrimmage before officially opening their season March 23 at home against Colusa at 4 p.m., the head coaching debut for Kelseyville's Julie Jackson, a former high school and college standout. Barring any other coronavirus delays, the Knights will play a handful of non-league games and a full 14-game North Central League I schedule. They never reached league play in 2020 as the COVID-19 pandemic shut down sports in mid-March. (Photos by Brian Sumpter)
