LAKEPORT— The Lakeport City Council approved the 12 priorities developed at their March 9 meeting, discussed the approval of a contract to complete a sewer rehabilitation project. and also honored Lake County Public Health officer, Dr. Gary Pace, at their regularly scheduled meeting Tuesday.

The City Council wanted to commend Pace for all of his efforts within the city and the county during the COVID-19 pandemic.

“I make it a priority to use language anyone can understand. It is one thing to dig into the technical aspects of a disease process, and I enjoy that work. But what good is it, if you don’t also do the work to translate that into tools that people can use in their everyday lives?” Pace said.

Lakeport Mayor Kenny Parlet said the Council is grateful and the City appreciated his leadership and service to residents.

“If any one deserves a proclamation it’s you. I have been so amazed and impressed with everything you have done,” Parlet said.

On March 9, the Lakeport City Council held a special meeting where City staff presented proposed goals for the 2021-22 fiscal year.

During the special meeting, the City staff brought forth a list of potential goals for the fiscal year. Council members were also asked to provide additional goals.

Officials said the City held the special meeting to hear public input on these goals.

Lakeport City Manager Kevin Ingram said the establishment of these goals really sets the stage for City spending and what can be accomplished using the City’s resources.

“This doesn’t just set the framework and foundation for the budget. It helps us make sure we are aligning our financial situation with our physical goals for the community,” Ingram said.

The city and council members came up with 12 goals. These include but are not limited to enhancements in the city, annexation, adopting new ordinances and continuing current city efforts.

“Any goal City Council members voted for are in the top 12,” Ingram said. “I think it really does represent a good set of goals moving forward.”

Lakeport City Council also discussed the approval of a contract to complete a sewer rehabilitation project.

Council was asked by staff to award this to the lowest bidder, AFelix General Engineering, Inc. at a cost of $649,000.

Public Works Director Doug Grider said the City is excited to start this project and is impressed on how many bids were received for it.

Grider said the project will be funded out of the City’s expansion fund.

According to staff, there is approximately $2 million in the expansion funds, some of which will be used for road repairs.

The work will consist of removing and replacing existing sewer mains, manholes, laterals, rodding and inlets.

The work for the project will be located on 9th Street, Crawford Street, Second Street, Estep Street, Tunis Street and Terrace Middle School.

Lakeport City Council meetings are held on the first and third Tuesday of each month. Regular Council meetings normally begin at 6 p.m. in the City Council Chamber, 225 Park Street and the public is invited to attend all Council meetings. During the COVID-19 pandemic however, these meetings are restricted to a digital platform via  Zoom. Residents may also join by phone or watch the meeting via a video streamed on the city’s website at cityoflakeport.com/city_council/index.php
