BOONVILLE — Anderson Valley ran out of pitching after three innings as the Upper Lake Cougars, red-hot at the plate of late, banged out a 22-4 victory in North Central League II varsity baseball action Thursday afternoon at Boonville.

“They played Tuesday against Potter Valley and burned up one of their pitchers,” Upper Lake head coach Brian Milhaupt said of the Panthers. “They’re a young team with a lot of freshmen.”

Upper Lake (5-2 league, 5-3 overall) scored 10 times in the top of the third inning to go up 22-0. Anderson Valley got four of those runs back in the bottom half, but the Panthers elected not to take the field in the fourth because they were out of pitching, forcing the umpires to end the game.

In addition to collecting 12 hits in only three innings, the Cougars drew 15 bases on balls.

“We’re really getting on base and the offense is definitely doing its job,” Milhaupt said.

Winning pitcher Johnny Gozony had a 8-0 lead before he had thrown his first pitch in the bottom of the first inning.

“He’s been on a roll pitching and we went out early and scored him some runs, and we kept it going from there,” Milhaupt said.

Upper Lake’s 12 hits were divvied up among eight players. Jonathon Thiessen went 2-for-2 with two doubles and two RBIs, Gozony helped himself with two hits and a RBI, Will Henry went 2-for-2 with two RBIs, and Cody Banks went 2-for-2 with a RBI. Bradley Sneathen (1-for-3) and Rocco Bassignani (1-for-1) added two RBIs apiece.

The Cougars return to action Tuesday against Sonoma Academy at Doyle Park in Santa Rosa.
