Rascon tops field in 800, 1,600, 3,200

Middletown boys track team piles up the wins during home meet

MIDDLETOWN — Middletown High School’s Isaac Rascon won the 800-meter run, the 1,600 and the 3,200 during a Coastal Mountain Conference four-team track and field meet Wednesday afternoon at Middletown High School..

A senior who went undefeated during the recent cross country season, Rascon also won the 1,600 and 3,200 a week ago during the Mustangs’ season-opening meet at Lower Lake High School. He anchored another strong effort by the Middletown boys squad against a field that included athletes from Cloverdale, Fort Bragg and Kelseyville high schools.

Boys

Rascon won the 800 in 2 minutes, 16 seconds, the 1,600 in 4:51.6, and the 3,200 in 10:46.3. In the 800 and 1,600, the top three finishers were all Middletown runners, with Isaiah Diaz taking second and Xander Romero third.

In the 3,200, Rascon won in front of teammate Kevin Nance (12:34).

In other running events, Middletown also picked up wins in the 400 where Forrest Devine won in 56.68, in the 4×100 relay (48.7), and in the 4×400 relay (4:17.78).

In the 200 meters, Devine came in second and teammate Caleb Sternberg was third. Russel Gordon of Fort Bragg won the event in 24.86.

Middletown’s Filemon Sanchez placed second in the 300 hurdles and third in the 110 hurdles.

In field events, Middletown’s Grayson Rockwell won the discus with a toss of 114 feet, 1 inch, and Devine won the long jump in 16-11 ½.

Second-place finishes went to Middletown’s Brody Breeden in the high jump (4-10), Robert Chaires in the shotput (37-10) and Jackson Scheibal in the pole vault (9-0).

Rockwell also placed third in the shotput (37-4) while Scheibal was third in both the high jump (4-10) and long jump (16-6 ½). Also for Middletown, Parker Boden was third in the 100 (12.37).

Girls

In addition to winning the 4×100 and 4×400 relays, the Middletown girls team posted four individual first-place finishes — Issy Barriga in the 100 (14.61), Georgia Guerrero in the 200 (29.25), Erica Kinsel in the 3,200 (15:10), and Amber Hart, who tied Fort Bragg’s Samantha Britton in the shotput at 28-9.

Kelseyville’s Elizabeth Walker won the high jump (4-2) and finished second in the 100 (14.7).

Other second-place finishers among Lake County athletes were Middletown’s Guerrero in the 400 (1:07.87), Kinsel in the 800 (3:04), Nicole Pyzer in the 1,600 (6:28), and Kelseyville’s Summer Anderson in the high jump (4-2).

Third-place finishers were Middletown’s Leonard in the 400 (1:19), Kelseyville’s Anderson in the 800 (3:16), Middletown’s Kinsel in the 1,600 (6:43), Middletown’s Hart in the discus (64-1), and Middletown’s Mariah Ketchum in the high jump (3-10).

Frosh-soph boys

Kelseyville’s Elliott Mayo won the 1,600 (5:38.11) and 3,200 (14:24) in the frosh-soph boys division.

Schedule

Middletown, Clear Lake and Willits travel to Kelseyville next Wednesday.
