Middletown athletes do well at Granada Distance Sprint Festival

LIVERMORE — Middletown High School cross country and track athletes Isaac Rascon and Isaiah Diaz turned in strong performances Saturday during the Granada Distance Sprint Festival, an event that draws many to the top track stars in North Coast Section.

Both seniors, Rascon and Diaz competed in two events apiece. Rascon set a personal-best time and broke Middletown High’s record in the 3,200 meters with a time of 10 minutes, 3 seconds, which placed him 22nd overall out of 100 runners.

Alex Lamoureux of College Park High School won the 3,200 in 9:22.86.

Rascon also finished just a second off his personal best in the 1,600, placing 41st out of 181 runners with a time of 4:44.87. Diaz finished 95th in 5:05.05.

Patrick Curulloa of De La Salle won the 1,600 in 4:19.32.

Middletown's Isaiah Diaz ran a personal-best 2 minutes, 13 seconds in the 800 meters Saturday at the Granada Distance Sprint Festival in Livermore. He also competed in the 1,600.

Diaz also ran a personal-best time of 2:13 in the 800 to finish 54th out of 135 runners.

Healdsburg’s Jackson Vanden Heuvel won the even in 1:55.89.

Rascon went undefeated during the COVID-19-abbreviated 2021 winter/spring cross country season this season.
