SANTA ROSA — In a race that wasn’t decided until the final holes of the final match, the Middletown Mustangs picked the perfect day to play their best golf of the season as they defeated St. Helena 363-383 in the Coastal Mountain Conference South finale at the par-72 Valley of the Moon Golf Club in Santa Rosa.

It was a winner-take-all finale for both Middletown (34-6) and St. Helena (35-5) as they entered play tied atop the South standings. For the first time this year, all four of the Mustangs’ low rounds were under 100, led by CMC South medalist and most valuable player Austin Pritchard, who carded a 6-over-par 78 that included three birdies.

“Coach Pritchard is overjoyed,” Kelseyville head coach John Berry said of his Middletown counterpart, Richard Pritchard. “It was a team effort for sure.”

Cooper Johnson’s 91, Dom Williams’ 96 and Austin Guzman’s 98 also figured prominently in Middletown’s title-clinching victory, according to Berry, who said Austin Pritchard’s teammates “stepped up big.”

Other team scores Tuesday had Clear Lake at 400, Credo at 421, Kelseyville at 433 and Technology at 441. The next lowest round after Pritchard’s 78 was a 85 by Kelseyville’s Cory Holt, who had one birdie.

Nathon Lopez led Clear Lake, third in the final conference standings at 21-19, with a 92.
